The Best TVs under $500 dollars (Reviews)

Panasonic VIERA TC-L32U22 32-Inch 1080p LCD
Panasonic TC-L32U22 32-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

The Panasonic TC-L32U22 is a VIERA series model which means the picture quality, features and value will be unparalleled amongst most comparable TV models.

As one of the best TV’s under $500 it provides an intense, superb LCD picture with settings to adjust the brightness and clarity quite easily. The Panasonic IPS panel allows light to be transmitted through a wide viewing angle so images are clear even when you are not sitting directly in front of the TV. The Panasonic TC-L32U22 allows you to adjust the picture size for widescreen movies or videos being played on the TV to be set to “full screen” etc. The TV will also make standard definition broadcasts appear as if they are almost HD. This TV is very comparable to the Panasonic X2 Series with the exception of not having a Game Mode. If you are going to be gaming on your 32 inch TV then go for the Panasonic X2 Series TV’s. If that does not matter to you then this is a nearly flawless LCD at 32 inches at an exceptional price.

Toshiba E200U Series
Toshiba 37E200U 37-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

Toshiba created a gem with the E200U Series LCD TV’s which make for some of the best TV’s under $500 or just around $500 packed with exciting features you would find in a $1000+ TV.

One of the most important features is the DynaLight backlight control that adjusts for deeper black levels to create higher dynamic contrast based on the onscreen image content which results in a more realistic picture. This makes all the difference in watching shows and movies the way they were meant to be seen. There is a Gaming mode for those who have video game consoles and it’s plentiful with 4 HDMI ports.

Toshiba designed these sets with a slimming tapered glossy piano black bezel that looks unique and stylish in the home setting. If you’re looking for the 37 and 42 inch model, they go on sale from time to time and can usually be purchased for just under or around $500 new and under $500 used. Even at 32 inches this is a set that provides tremendous value for anyone from those who love TV shows, to DVD/Blu-Ray movie buffs, and even dedicated video gamers.

LG 32LD350 and 32LE5300
LG 32LD350 32-Inch 720p 60 Hz LCD HDTV

LG is a top-tier HDTV manufacturer who consistently output high quality Plasma, LCD and LED TV’s. Two models that stand out amongst the best TV’s under $500 dollars are the LG 32LD350 and 32LE5300 which are respectively an LCD and a newer LED model (both 32 inches).

The LG 32LD350 is perhaps one of the most popular TV’s available at 32 inches under $500 due it’s amazing overall value. It is an 720p 60 Hz LCD with great color contrast, AV Mode to select the picture mode for “Cinema”, Sports” or “Games”, and a Clear Voice feature which enhances the audio of the human voice to hear dialogue better when background noise swells. You may never find an unsatisfied customer with this model.

The LG 32LE5300 is a 1080p 120 Hz LED that carries superior features over the previous model including TruMotion technology to handle high-speed action with no motion blur, LED backlighting to enhance brightness, clarity and color detail, and runs Energy Star 4.0 compliant to save money. So why will you hear more satisfied customers with the 32LD350 over this model? LG was manufacturing this model with both IPS Panels and VA panels. Some people feel that VA Panels do not display color and picture quality as well as the ISP panels. How you identify the difference on the set is that IPS Panels have a W in the serial number and VA panels don’t. This doesn’t mean you won’t be impressed with the TV if you purchase one with a VA panel, but it is safe to assume that if you cannot insure you are getting an ISP Panel then the LG 32LD350 is a better bet.

Panasonic X2 Series LCD HDTV with iPod Dock
Panasonic TC-L32X2 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTV with iPod Dock

The best kept secret in 22, 32 and 37 inch LCD TV’s under $500. In terms of value: price + quality, it makes for an unparalleled purchase at this size.

You get everything you expect in a Panasonic VIERA, but this TV has an iPod dock to enable you to control and play music through and iPod or iPhone. At 37/32 inches or below you don’t really need 1080p so 720p is sufficient to see crisp, color accurate images and the amazing picture quality that the VIERA series delivers. DVD/Blu-Ray and Games display remarkably sharp, vibrant and impressively on this set. These are three of the best TV’s under $500 dollars available on the market today. A favorite of Consumer Reports and a favorite of ours.
