New Sharp Quattron TV Delivers Stunning Display Image

Is it really that innovative or just marketing hype?

The Sharp Quattron has caused quite a stir amongst HDTV enthusiasts and for good reason. Sharp has released a line of innovative LED and LCD HDTV’s that feature Quattron quad pixel technology. All other TV’s have a 3-color (RGB) system, while for the very first time Sharp has added yellow to enable more colors to be displayed. In a TV spot for the new line of Quattron quad pixel AQUOS LED TVs, renowned actor George Takei of ‘Star Trek” fame as a Sharp TV engineer introduces the new Quattron quad pixel technology and states Sharp’s goal is to reproduce every color in the world on TV. Does Quattron quad pixel technology actually deliver on this promise or is it just marketing hype?

Here is the TV spot:

The Truth about Sharp Quattron HDTV quad pixel Technology

Sharp Quattron vs Plasma

Sharp’s slogan for the new line is “You have to see it to see it.” When you actually do see one of these tv’s in person it is certainly a sight to behold. The Sharp Quattron has the unique capability to display colors on a TV screen that our eyes are just not using to seeing on any other HDTV..including plasma. We’re talking about like sparkling golds, Caribbean blues and sunflower yellows….all without overdriving the panel. Adding yellow to increase the color spectrum really does make a tremendous difference. It is quite apparent as soon as the TV is turned on. In the Quattron vs Plasma arena, plasmas were known for their dynamic contrast ratios of blacks to light colors however the Quattron’s color, clarity and contrast seem to visually surpass most plasmas on the market by leaps and bounds. Even though we normally recommend against edge lit LED TV’s, it seems the opposite applies to Sharp Quattron quad pixel technology. The LED technology actually creates cleaner, brighter lighting with zero edgelit backlight bleeding.
